Drinking Water Quality

The vast majority of the 92,000 properties in the borough are connected to the mains water supply which is controlled by United Utilities. Any problems relating to main water quality such as abnormal taste or colour should be referred to United Utilities who can be contacted on telephone number 0845 7462200.

Some 73 properties in the borough are not connected to the mains supply and take their water from a variety of local sources such as wells or streams. These supplies are sampled on a regular basis by the Environmental Health and Consumer Services Division to check the bacteriological and chemical standard. Any problems that are identified by sampling are discussed with the property owner and appropriate advice is given.
