The Technical, Economic and Environmental Services Scrutiny Panel has the responsibility for considering all elements of Council policies in relation to the provision of engineering and transport services, environmental health and the environment in which we live and the economy and prosperity of Tameside.

The scrutiny panel gives consideration, therefore, to economic development and regeneration policies and the Council's policies for the management of its assets.

The panel has also considered the Council's policies with regard to environmental health, refuse collection and recycling, but its areas for consideration also include pest control and food hygiene. The scrutiny panel has considered the buildings, roads, footpaths and grounds maintenance of the cemeteries and crematorium, Section 106 Planning Agreements, Stretched Limousines and Recycling/Minimising Waste from Council premises and Operations.

Scrutiny Update - Summer/Autumn 2008

The Scrutiny Panel has concluded its review of Energy Efficiency in the Council’s Buildings and Operations and this will be published and presented to Council in due course.

The Scrutiny Panel approved its Work Programme for 2008/9 at its first meeting in June 2008.

Once again the work programme for this Scrutiny Panel is varied and covers a number of in depth reviews such as the just completed review of energy efficiency and a new review of parking and traffic management in town centres. The Panel is currently undertaking a Follow Up Review of Section 106 Planning Obligations and will also undertake a further Follow Up Review of Stretched Limousines in due course.

The Scrutiny Panel will also undertake a series of “consultations” in advance of executive decisions. These will relate to amongst others, the control of mercury and the use of heat exchangers at Dukinfield Crematorium. The Panel will also monitor the progress of the excellent rebuilding of Ashton Market Hall and receive an in depth introductory presentation on the responsibilities of this partnership.
