The Eyes and Ears On The Street

Photograph of a Patroller with a Member of the Public at Hyde MarketTameside Patrollers are often seen the ‘Eyes and Ears’ on the street. They’re a team of uniformed Council Officers that work hand in hand with Greater Manchester Police to tackle lower level disorder such as youth nuisance and environmental anti-social behaviour.

In each District Assembly, you’ll find a team of dedicated Patrollers for that area. By working in this way, Officers know what the individual concers are within communities as well as who they can work with to tackle any problems.

The Patrollers have a range of responsibilities. These include:

  • Monitoring the Neighbourhood CCTV network across the Borough
  • Deterring crime by working in partnership with the police and social landlors such as New Charter Link to External Website. This includes involvement in multi-agency initiatives such as the Padlock Operations which tackle anti-social behaviour, criminal damage, burglary and robbery
  • Taking legal action against litter louts and people who allow their dogs to foul in public areas by offering advice and issuing Fixed Penalty Notices. Photograph of two Patrollers Hotspot Patrolling in the Community
  • Reducing antisocial behaviour and illegal drinking in the streets by working with Tameside’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team. When officers find people causing a nuisance in the street, referrals are made to the ASB Team who then write to the parents.
  • Ridding towns of fly posting and abandoned vehicles by working closely with TMBC Envrinmental Enforcement Teams
  • Working closely with local businesses to help support the local economy

The Patrollers are on duty 8am until 10pm,  Monday to Saturday in your local community.
