Consultation and Engagement
Consultation and Engagement
Tameside Council is commmited to listening to local people. Services can only be better if local people can have a say about the way in which they are delivered. This could be about particular services such as schools, libraries, rubbish collection, planning or social care. It could also be about what needs to improve in the neighbourhood or local area. That’s why the Council’s has four ‘people’s priorities’ based on what local people have told us are important:
- Public safety and combating crime
- Children and young people
- Stimulating the economy to produce more and better jobs
- The appearance of the borough
The Council and other organisations in the borough regularly seek feedback from all sections of the community about what’s going well and what needs to improve. We have recently been recognised as one of best Council’s in the country for transforming services by engaging and empowering local people to get their voice heard. The Beacon Council award section of the website gives some examples of how we have listened to local people in recent years.
There are a number of ways local people can get their voice heard:
- District Assemblies
- Voting in elections
- Attending Council meetings
- Contacting your local Councillor
- Getting involved in a scrutiny review
- Making a complaint when you are unhappy about something
- Joining a voluntary group such as a residents association or community organisation

- Filling in a questionnaire when you are sent one or at places such as libraries
- Giving feedback to Council staff when you use any service.
- Attending an event such as the annual Listen Here disability conference and Really Important Questions Conference for Older People.
There are a number of consultation and engagements going on around the borough at any one time. Below are some key documents and information about the range of activity taking place in Tameside.
