Who can use the service?

Clinical waste collections are free of charge to householders who need to dispose of medical waste resulting from treatment at home. Collections are normally arranged as a result of a referral by a hospital, health visitor, G.P., district nurse or home care assistant.

What is the service?

We can provide a for the collection of clinical waste collection and disposal:

  • The clinical waste collections are carried out once a week by a separate collection crew to your normal weekly collections as the waste is taken directly for safe disposal by incineration.
  • Clinical waste must not be placed with your normal refuse. It should be stored in special yellow clinical waste bags prior to collection. Sharp instruments such as needles must be placed in special yellow plastic containers called sharps boxes. Clinical waste bags and sharps boxes are provided free of charge for domestic customers.

If you experience a problem with your trade waste collection or service, please use the online reporting form to notify us.

What days are collections made?

Collections are made on a weekly basis on a Monday and a Thursday (depending on the area) - Please telephone our Call Centre for your collection day.
