What is a Care Home?
You may be more familiar with the terms residential, nursing or dual-registered (nursing and residential) homes. The Government has adopted new descriptions for homes and all residential homes are now known as ‘Care Homes’. Those with nursing facilities are known as ‘Care Homes with Nursing’ (they may also have some residential places).
Is there a list of Tameside Care Homes?
Tameside Adult Services produces an Approved List of Care Homes in Tameside. The list also includes Care Homes with Nursing in Glossop.
Homes on the list have been inspected by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) and have a contract with the Council. Homes are visited regularly by a Contracts Monitoring Officer (Tameside Council) to make sure the standards agreed to in the contract are being met.
Is there somewhere you can go for more information on Care Homes?
If you would like to talk with someone about care homes, (residential or nursing), the ChoicE (Care and Home Options Independent ChoicE) Shop in Ashton-under-Lyne can offer you free, independent, confidential and impartial information about care homes in Tameside. The shop holds a selection of Information Leaflets to help you make your choice.
Can you get help from Adult Services?
You may already have contacted Adult Services to see if they can offer any support. If you haven’t, you need to contact the Adult Assessment and Customer Care Team to talk with a member of staff to find out if they can support your situation.
What do you need to look for in a Care Home?
Once you have narrowed your choices down to two or three homes, you need to visit each of your choices and ask appropriate questions. Each home should also have a user guide which you can ask to look at.
If you would like to talk with someone independent about choosing a care home, please contact the ChoicE Shop.
